Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmood has commented that India has no objection to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to China.

The Foreign Minister made this comment while talking to reporters after inaugurating the academy's journal, smart library and website at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday (July 3) afternoon.

Expressing the hope of moving forward by maintaining good relations with neighboring India, Hasan Mahmud said, "Our foreign policy is friendship with all, not enmity with anyone. We want to move the country forward by maintaining good relations with everyone.

He said that the Prime Minister visited India a few days ago. That visit was very fruitful. During the visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the visit to China.

He also said that China is our major development partner country. In our infrastructure development, many iconic structures including the Bangabandhu Tunnel, Padma Bridge, etc. have taken Chinese money and manpower. So the next visit is definitely very important. This visit is important to accelerate the development journey that China has been playing in our development journey for so long.

In response to the question whether there will be any new agreement during the visit to China, the foreign minister said that it has not been finalized yet. It's not time to tell yet.

When asked if India had any objection to visit China, he said, India never had any objection. When we discussed the Rohingya issue, China's role was discussed. Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, I am going to China, I will discuss the matter there. This is how the matter came about.

Students of Dhaka University (DU) are marching to demand the reinstatement of the circular issued by the government in 2018 canceling the quota system in government jobs. The children of the freedom fighter family also joined this movement.

On Wednesday (July 3) afternoon, the grandson of a brave freedom fighter spoke at the movement demanding restoration of circulars at Shahbag intersection area of the capital. His name is Farabi Rahman Shravan. He is a student of Dhaka University Mathematics Department 2020-21 session.

Shravan said, I am the son of a brave freedom fighter family. I am the grandson of a brave freedom fighter. Personally I think 30 percent quota is never good for common people. I never support such quota system. Our forefathers did not make the country independent for such a system.

The protesting students, demanding the reinstatement of the circular issued by the government in 2018 by canceling the quota system in government jobs, marched the various lanes of the campus around 3:00 pm and took a stand at Shahbagh via Doyal Chatwar and High Court Road. Angry students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have been protesting for almost 1 hour by blocking the Dhaka-Aricha highway for 4-point demands, including canceling the quota system in government jobs announced in 2018 and maintaining the merit-based recruitment circular. It has created a severe traffic jam on the Dhaka-Aricha highway up to Chandra in the north and Aminbazar in the south.

On Wednesday (July 3) around 2:15 pm, a protest march left the foot of the Sangsaptak sculpture in the central library premises of the university and took a position on the Dhaka-Aricha highway adjacent to the main gate (Dairy Gate) of the university.

Meanwhile, Dhaka-19 Constituency MP Saiful Islam's car got stuck on the Dhaka-Aricha highway due to heavy traffic. He was later observed to be forced to get down from his private vehicle and walk towards his desired destination.

It should be noted that earlier on Tuesday, the agitators announced to block the Dhaka-Aricha highway for two hours from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Wednesday (July 3) to speed up the movement on the second day of the program.

It is known that before the holy Eid-ul-Azha on June 5, the High Court declared invalid the circular for the cancellation of freedom fighter quota in the case of direct recruitment (grades 9 to 13) in government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions and various corporations. From that day, a large number of students started protesting in Dhaka University. In this situation, the state applied to the Appellate Division seeking suspension of the court's decision. A full bench of the Appellate Division fixed July 4 for hearing the petition.

Nahid Islam, a student of Sociology Department of Dhaka University, one of the organizers of the recent quota reform movement, said that their demand is mainly to redistribute or reform the quota by setting up a commission with a maximum quota of 10 percent in all grades subject to the upholding of the 2018 circular; Stopping the possibility of using quota facility multiple times in the job examination and appointing the vacant posts on the basis of merit if qualified candidates are not found in the quota and taking effective measures to ensure a corruption-free, impartial and merit-based bureaucracy.

Till 2018, there was a total of 56 percent quota in government jobs in Bangladesh. That year, protests started in various educational institutions of the country, including Dhaka University, demanding quota reform. At that time, the protesting students complained of attack by law and order forces including Chhatra League.

On October 4 of that year, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a circular on the cancellation of quota. Later in 2021, the children of freedom fighters filed a writ challenging the part of the freedom fighter quota cancellation of that circular.
