The interim government’s chief adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said that the interim government is preparing for local government elections alongside the national elections.
He said this in a meeting with European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice-President Nicola Beer on Wednesday (January 8).
During this meeting, Professor Yunus discussed in detail the interim government’s plans for holding the next general elections and local government elections.
Dr. Yunus said that the interim government is preparing for local government elections simultaneously so that local government is truly local and one government can be ensured.
The chief adviser said, ‘The development of eastern Bangladesh will benefit eastern India and Myanmar.’
Meanwhile, European Investment Bank Vice President Nicola Beer assured support in implementing the important reforms undertaken by the government.
Nicola Beer said, ‘We have come to a very challenging time. We support the interim government and the government’s reform agenda. The EU has the technical expertise to assist in these areas.'
The meeting was attended by Lutfe Siddiqui, Special Envoy of the chief adviser, Ashiq Mahmud Chowdhury, Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Lamia Morshed, Senior Secretary for SDG Affairs, Shahriar Quader Siddiqui, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, and EU Ambassador Michael Miller.
