The Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus has asked for the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to reform important institutions such as the judiciary, police, election commission (EC), revenue board and land registration.

The Chief Adviser said the interim government is committed to introducing important reforms in Bangladesh's key institutions in an effort to hold free, fair and transparent elections and to help people truly enjoy the fruits of the student-led revolution.

The Chief Adviser said these things when he met UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Leelar at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Wednesday (August 28).

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, Bangladesh needs far-reaching digitization immediately. So that easily a citizen can pay taxes and register sale of land and property without any hassle.

Professor Muhammad Yunus said Bangladesh needs important reforms to build a modern police force and ensure the rule of law in the country.

He said his government would also seek UNDP's help in reforming the judiciary and the Election Commission.

Yunus said, we are committed to free, fair and transparent elections.

Referring to the student-mass revolution, he said, we have to find out how to restructure the systems.

The UNDP Resident Representative Leelar offered full support for the sweeping reforms.

He said the UNDP has a long history of cooperation in Bangladesh but bureaucratic processes have slowed down much of their funding.

UNDP officials present at the meeting said the agency is ready to support Bangladesh's export diversification efforts, green transition, support for business facilitation and fight against climate change.
