DU classes start on 22nd September, common room abolished

All educational programs of Dhaka University (DU) will start from September 22 after classes and examinations were stopped for three months due to the anti-discrimination student movement.

The decision was taken on Monday (September 9) in a meeting with the provosts of the University's residential hall and the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan. At the same time, the abolition of gonorooms have been announced.

Earlier, on Sunday, in Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhavan Auditorium of the University held a discussion meeting with the top administration of the University with Deans of various faculties, Hall Provosts, Chairman of Departments, Directors of Institutes and Heads of Offices in order to start the education program quickly.

In the meeting, the initial proposal regarding the commencement of classes was accepted in the last week of September. The matter will be finalized in the upcoming syndicate meeting. In this regard, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan sought the cooperation of all stakeholders including teachers and students.

According to a press release of the public relations office of the university, it was discussed in the meeting that the exchange of views with the students has already been completed in order to start the education program quickly. Such exchanges continue at the department and institute level as well. Discussions with the students have already brought up several issues, which the administration is seriously considering. It was also mentioned that the overall situation of the University campus was reviewed in the meeting.

In the meeting, the University's Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed and Acting Registrar Munsi Shamsuddin Ahmed were present.
