'July Shaheed Smriti Foundation' is an Important Milestone: Chief Adviser

The Chief Adviser to the Interim government. Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, 'July Shaheed Smriti Foundation is an important milestone. We have to work hard to make it a success.”

The chief adviser said these things in the president's speech at the first executive committee meeting of 'July Shaheed Smriti Foundation' at State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday (September 18).

Dr. Muhammad Yunus told the meeting that the foundation should also document the donation of small amount of money and also keep the list of donors, if possible publish their names on the website of the foundation.

Also, in the meeting, July Shaheed Smriti Foundation decided to donate Tk. 5 lakh  to each family of the martyrs who died in the student movement and Tk. 1 lakh  to each of the injured.

The chief adviser said that the health ministry will pay the medical expenses of the injured. The compensation that the foundation will pay to the injured will be out of the government's medical expenses.

Checks will be handed over to the families of the martyrs through a memorial ceremony and compensation will be given to the injured as soon as possible, it said.

People from all walks of life, Bangladeshi expatriates and organizations and businesses have been called upon to donate to the Foundation under the leadership of the Chief Adviser. The Executive Committee also decided to hire volunteers to run an office and activities for the Foundation. The foundation is said to preserve and archive all videos, photographs, oral histories and other documents and memorabilia of the July-August uprising.

Interim government advisers Sharmin Murshid, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, general secretary of the foundation Mir Mahbubur Rahman Singhdho and treasurer of the foundation Kazi Waqar Ahmad were present in the meeting.
