1017 more cases under traffic law, Tk. 41 lakh fines collected

Residents of the city are fed up with long-term traffic jams caused by various reasons, including chaos on the capital's roads, parking everywhere and passenger boarding. As a result, all the traffic divisions of Dhaka Metropolitan Police are working to bring order to the roads by reducing traffic congestion.

In the meantime, the chief advisor of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus has instructed the police and experts from the country's elite universities to find a solution to the traffic congestion in the capital Dhaka. Following this, the responsible traffic police are taking legal action against those who are creating chaos on the road and disobeying the law.

In the meantime, the traffic department of DMP conducted an operation against traffic law violators in Dhaka and filed 1017 cases and fined Tk. 40 lakh 84 thousand 500. Also, 224 cars were dumped and 70 cars were wrecked during the operation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP confirmed this information on Monday (October 7).

Muhammad Talebur Rahman said, traffic police members are working day and night to restore order on the road. Yesterday, Sunday (October 6), the traffic department of DMP conducted operations against traffic law violators in different areas of the capital, filed 1017 cases and fined Tk. 40 lakh 84 thousand 500. Also, 224 cars were dumped and 70 cars were wrecked during the operation.

This official of DMP also said that the raids against traffic law violators will continue to restore order on the roads.

Meanwhile, on Monday (September 16) at the State Guest House Jamuna, the chief advisor of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with the top officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) traffic system experts. In the meeting, he directed the police and experts from elite universities of the country to find a solution to solve the traffic congestion in the capital Dhaka.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "We have to reduce traffic congestion. A solution must be found immediately.

The meeting asked BUET experts to find some homegrown solutions with the help of their students on at least one traffic corridor. They are asked to fix the signaling system using local expertise. The DMP has also been directed to find some quick and effective solution to the traffic problem.

Professor Moazzem Hossain, Transport and Traffic System Expert of BUET gave a presentation in the meeting. He said that the country loses at least Tk. 40,000 crore every year due to traffic congestion in Dhaka city alone.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Kh. Nazmul Hasan said traffic conditions continued to improve after more traffic police were deployed in recent weeks. Full deployment is expected by the end of next week.

In the meeting, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, civil engineering professor of BUET Hadiuzzaman and DMP Additional Commissioner Farooq Ahmed were present.
