India's allegations baseless: Foreign Ministry

Dhaka: India has accused the 'petrol bomb' hurling at the Pujamandap in the capital's Tantibazar and the theft of the golden crown of the statue of Jashoreswari Kalimandir in Satkhira as a planned trend to desecrate the deities. The foreign ministry of the country has also made a statement about this. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh has given a counter statement that such allegations against Dhaka are baseless and unwarranted. This information was informed in the press release on Monday.

It is also said that a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India on October 12 has drawn the attention of the Bangladesh government. The Bangladesh government has been called upon to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities and their places of worship especially during this Durga Puja. Also the said complaint was raised.

In another statement on the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Hindu community of Bangladesh celebrated their biggest festival, Durga Puja, in a joyful atmosphere.

More than 32,000 mandapas were set up across the country on the occasion of puja, where Hindu women, men and children paid their respects. The ten-day long festival ended with the sacrifice of idols. The government has congratulated all Hindus for observing the festival with full faith in the steps taken by the government ignoring any kind of provocation and propaganda.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government has taken strict measures immediately in view of the several untoward incidents that have taken place across the country in the last week. Law and order forces and civil administration have registered 11 cases so far and 17 people have already been arrested for their involvement in these incidents. Ensuring the safety of all citizens in Bangladesh, especially the members of religious minorities, is considered a duty of the government.
