A decision has been taken to increase the age limit for entry into government service to 32 years.

This information was given in a press release from the Cabinet Division on Thursday (October 24).

It said that the draft of the Ordinance on the Determination of Maximum Age Limit for Direct Appointment in Government, Autonomous, Semi-Autonomous, Statutory Government Authorities, Public Non-Financial Corporations and Self-Governing Bodies, 2024 has been approved in principle and finally.

The notification said that the said ordinance has been approved through the following discussion in the Advisory Council meeting. The maximum age limit for entry into service of all cadres of Bangladesh Civil Service will be fixed at 32 years. The maximum age limit for entry into all government services outside the scope of Bangladesh Civil Service will be fixed at 32 years.

‘In the case of autonomous, semi-autonomous organizations, their respective recruitment rules will be applicable subject to necessary adaptations. In the case of defense departments and law enforcement agencies, their respective recruitment rules will remain in force.’

The Cabinet Division further informed that in light of this ordinance, the Ministry of Public Administration, by virtue of the powers conferred by Section 59 of the ‘Government Services Act, 2018’, will restructure the ‘Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification and Direct Recruitment Examination) Rules, 2014’ and add such rules that a candidate can appear in the Bangladesh Civil Service Examination a maximum of three times.

Earlier, on September 18, the Cabinet Division had proposed to set the age limit for entry into government service at 35 years. Along with this, a proposal has also been made to set the retirement age at 65 years.
