The Chief Adviser to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has said that the economy of Bangladesh has become strong within 100 days of taking charge.

He said this in his address to the nation on the occasion of the 100-day completion of the interim government on Sunday (November 17).

At the same time, he said, "We started our journey from the state of financial ruin 100 days ago. The economy has come to a strong position in these 100 days. This situation has been achieved through our own policies," he said.

The Chief Adviser said, "When we took charge, the foreign exchange reserves were at the bottom. This reserve situation is now on the way to improvement. In the last three months, we have been able to repay almost 2 billion dollars in foreign debt without touching the reserves. We have been able to reduce the accumulated arrears in fuel oil imports from 478 million dollars to 160 million dollars."

Regarding the aid received from various organizations and countries, he said, "The aid that has been arranged from our friends has not started coming yet. However, they have promised me that it will start coming as soon as possible."

If all this aid starts coming, our economy will become a very strong and attractive economy, said Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

In addition, he highlighted the work done in the last 100 days, including the rehabilitation of the injured in the movement, the rehabilitation of the flood victims, and the improvement of the law and order system in the country.

Chief Adviser to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said, the election train has started its journey for ultimate destination. It will not stop. But we have to complete many tasks along the way. When this train reaches the last station will depend on how quickly we can lay the railway lines. And that will be through the consensus of the political parties.

He said this in his address to the nation on Sunday (November 17) at 7 pm on the occasion of the 100th day of the interim government.

Stating that the question of when the elections will be held is on everyone's mind, the Chief Adviser said, you have noticed that we have started taking necessary steps to organize the elections. The Election Commission will be formed in a few days. From then on, all the responsibility of organizing the elections will fall on them.

He said, once an Election Commission is formed, our responsibility for organizing the elections ends. Reforms in the state system are one of the commitments of this government. You gave us this mandate. The six reform commissions that we formed in the beginning have already taken their activities a long way forward. One of which is the Election Reform Commission. The recommendations of this commission are very important for holding elections. Go to their platform. Express your opinion openly. You are the owner of the country. You say what you want. How you want.

He also said, keep speaking freely about the elections. Express everyone's thoughts. My request is to talk about reforms at the same time. Do not bypass reforms. Along with talking about elections, talk about reforms in elections and other areas. Reforms are the long-term lifeblood of the nation. Reforms will give the nation, especially our youth, an opportunity to create a new world. Do not deprive the nation.

The commission in which the opinions of political parties and all the people of the country are essential in organizing elections is the Constitution Reform Commission. The electoral law will have to be amended based on which part of these recommendations is acceptable to everyone. In parallel, the process of updating the voter list will continue, he said.

Dr. Yunus said, I am not sure how much opportunity we will get to implement the reform proposals. But I promise you, if you give me a chance, we will organize your desired elections after completing some necessary reforms. Till then, I request you to be patient. We want that we can create an electoral system that will be followed for ages. As a result, our country will be saved from the annual political crisis. For this, I am asking you for the necessary time. Once the decision on electoral reforms is made, you will also get the election roadmap very soon.

He said, the interim government has been formed to bring politics into the framework of policies, and out of the intense desire to create a new environment for politics. Do not deprive the nation from fulfilling this desire.

Not only the massacres carried out in July-August during the student-public uprising, but all the misdeeds committed by the Awami League in the past 15 years will be tried, said Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

He made this statement in his address to the nation on the occasion of the 100th day of the interim government on Sunday (November 17).

At this time, he said, countless people have been disappeared, murdered during this period. We have formed a commission to investigate the disappearances. The head of the commission told me that they have received information about 1,600 disappearances until October. They estimate that this number will exceed 3,500.

He also said that many are afraid to file complaints about disappearances with the commission.

Assuring those who are afraid, Dr. Yunus said, you should file your complaints with the commission without hesitation. No one has the ability to lay hands on you again.

In addition, the Chief Adviser also said that we have taken the initiative to prosecute those involved in the disappearances, murders, and the July-August genocide not only in the country, but also in the international court.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted in a student-public uprising, will be asked to return her back from India, said Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government.

He also said, we all have to rebuild this country, which has been devastated by dictatorship. After the July-August revolution, we got a country in which there was chaos everywhere. To maintain the dictatorship, the law and order forces were made to stand in front of the people. During the revolution, about 1500 students and workers died as martyrs.

Our government is collecting information about each death with great care. 19,931 people were injured in this revolution. Treatment arrangements have been made for the injured in various specialized hospitals, including 13 hospitals in Dhaka. Every day, more and more information about martyrs who have left this world as victims of the tyranny is being added to the list. We will prosecute every murder. The initiative we have taken to prosecute the July-August murders is also progressing very well. We will also demand the return of the fallen dictator Sheikh Hasina from India.

The chief adviser said, we will not only prosecute the July-August murders, we will prosecute all the crimes committed in the last 15 years. Innumerable people have been disappeared and murdered during this period. We have formed a commission to investigate the disappearances. The head of the commission told me that they have received information about the disappearances of 1,600 people till October. They estimate that this number will exceed 3,500. Many are afraid to file a complaint about disappearances with the commission, thinking that they may be attacked and harmed again by the accused persons. I want to assure you that you should file your complaint with the commission without hesitation. No one has the capacity to touch you again.

Dr. Yunus said, after the July-August revolution, students have written their thoughts on the walls of the city and port. Those who were victims of disappearances before them have written touching accounts of their suffering on the walls of every secret shelter. Our hearts are touched by hearing their suffering.

We will bring those involved in these to justice. No matter how powerful the accused is, no matter which force he belongs to, there is no chance of giving him any leeway. Not only in the country, but we have also taken the initiative to try those involved in disappearances, murders and the July-August genocide in the international court.

I have already spoken to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, in this regard. He also said, we have signed the International Convention against Disappearances so that no member of the law enforcement agencies or anyone else can be involved in such crimes as murders, disappearances. As you have seen, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Falk Turk, recently visited Bangladesh.

The United Nations has extended its support to us in the investigation of the July-August killings. They have promised to hand over their report to us in the first week of December. We have also been in regular contact with them in the investigation of past disappearances. They have offered to increase their manpower in Dhaka to assist in protecting human rights. We have accepted this offer.
