Police Reform Commission recommends not to consider political identity in police verification

Dhaka: The Police Reform Commission will recommend not to consider political identity in police verification for jobs. In this case, NID card will be the verification criterion, said Police Reform Commission Chairman Safar Raj Hossain.

He told reporters after the first meeting of the Police Reform Commission at the Home Affairs Adviser's office in the Secretariat on Monday (November 18) afternoon.

Safar Raj Hossain said that a recommendation will be made that the police can arrest and remand people in accordance with the High Court's instructions. However, the recommendation has not been finalized yet.

He said that the government will take initiatives to implement the recommendation. Amendments to Section 54 will also be recommended.

It is noteworthy that the Police Reform Commission was formed on October 3 under the leadership of former Home Secretary Safar Raj Hossain.

Other members of the commission are Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mohammad Iqbal, former Director General and former Additional Secretary of the Narcotics Control Department, Mohammad Harun Chowdhury, former Divisional Commissioner and Joint Secretary, Sheikh Sajjad Ali, Deputy Inspector General of Police Md. Golam Rasul, Professor of Law Department of Dhaka University Shahnaz Huda, human rights activist ASM Nasiruddin Elan and student representatives.
