Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that the attack on the media is unfortunate even after the people-student uprising.

He said this at a discussion meeting organized by Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Thursday (November 28) afternoon.

He said, we will make all efforts to protect the freedom of people, press and vote at any cost. I think a rash decision at this moment would be detrimental to the nation. Let us not do something that destroys the opportunity created to restore democracy in Bangladesh.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the press should speak freely in a fascist-free country. For the last 15 years, we were always afraid to write something, when to go back to prison. I did not expect to talk about this today.

He also said that even after the uprising, the students have to speak because of the attack on the media, which is unfortunate. Our fight is for freedom of speech, free expression.

BNP Secretary General said, some people have tried to divide the nation, it seems they are leading the country towards anarchy. We all need to unite and stop them. Otherwise, the goal and consciousness of the students will fail.

He said, elected government is better than any government. Whoever he is, whoever comes. Let democracy be practiced, we will move forward through practice.
