Feni coordinator Shuvo arrested for demanding extortion in the names of central coordinators
A Feni coordinator named Omar Faruk Shuvo has been accused of demanding extortion of Tk. 3 lakh in the names of central coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement Abdul Quader and Hamza Mahbub, and assuring them that Feni Alia Kamil Madrasa principal Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, who was temporarily suspended for various scandals, would be retained in his post.
He also mentioned the name of Azizur Rahman Rizvi, a student of the Finance Department of Dhaka University, as an intermediary. Meanwhile, Feni Model Police have arrested coordinator Shuvo in a case filed on charges of extortion, fraud and defamation.
On Tuesday (December 31), a 15-minute and 12-second call record of the extortion demand went viral on social media, creating various discussions and criticisms across the district. Meanwhile, Shuvo's father Siddiqur Rahman filed a case on behalf of Rizvi, alleging fraud, extortion and defamation. Later, the police arrested him from the area adjacent to the city's Model Police Station at 11:30 pm. The matter was confirmed by Feni Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Marm Singha Tripura.
He said that he tried to extort money by changing the names of the central coordinator, information advisor and me. Despite not having the slightest contact or involvement with him, such an act of his is disrespectful to me. After learning about the matter, I complained to Feni Model Police Station. The banner of the anti-discrimination student movement is a blessing. There is no room for concessions in any act that tarnishes the image of this banner due to these anonymous coordinators. Feni Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Marm Singh Tripura said that the police arrested him in a drive after filing a case. Shuvo will be sent to jail through the court on Wednesday.
