BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has demanded that the Interim government should do reforms as well as the election should be given importance to it soon.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the Interim government will soon go to an election through reforms. Elections will be free and fair through which power will be transferred to the people. There is a group creating obstacles.

Mirza Fakhrul said that many responsible political party leaders are saying things that are not suitable for overall unity. This is a problem. We know this administration is still not free of fascists.

He also said that our biggest need is to maintain unity among all, to have patience. To support and carry forward all the work of the Government those who are living in factories are friends of fascists. It is clear.

He said that the attack on minorities is a drama. You have seen recently that the rumors that religious minorities are being attacked are completely nonsense. Indian journalists came at that time. They got nothing of the kind. What happened is political.

On the question whether all the reforms will be done by the Interim government or the next government, he said, we have clearly said before and are still saying that reforms are needed during the elections, that is, election commission, administration, law and order forces - these need to be reformed. And other reforms can be done by the elected government. Elections should be given the most importance because it should not take two months to reform an election commission.

On the question of BNP-Awami League coin's back and forth, he said, it is a planned propaganda. Those who want to take advantage are running such campaigns. Awami League is not a democratic party. BNP is a party to keep democracy alive. Because in 1975 BNP converted one-party democracy into multi-party democracy.

BNP Secretary General said that 155 BNP leaders and activists were martyred in the movement for democracy till 2023. 700 people are missing. 60 lakh activists were accused in 1.5 lakh cases which is a reflection of the persistent struggle and contribution of the party on the way to achieve the second independence of Bangladesh. 

A total of 875 people were killed in the July and August massacres in the country. Among them, 422 BNP leaders and activists were killed, claimed the party's general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He gave this information at a press conference at BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Sunday (September 15) at 11:00 am. 

BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman said that he is committed to restore democracy in Bangladesh unitedly and said that free, impartial and participatory elections will be the basis of state repair; Independence of judiciary and media and institutional implementation of all principles of democracy.

Tariq Rahman made these comments in a speech given on Saturday (September 14) on the occasion of September 15 International Democracy Day.

Tariq Rahman said, since 2007,  every year on September 15, a special day of UN member countries is 'International Democracy Day' to create interest in understanding democracy and its inherent power. I express deep respect for those who gave their lives to establish democracy. Seeking forgiveness for the departed souls of the martyrs who sacrificed themselves and condoling with the injured.

He said the timeless philosophy of martyred President Ziaur Rahman was at the core of Bangladeshi nationalism multi-party democracy - based on equality, human dignity, freedom of individual and speech and social justice. This thought and philosophy was pioneered by the Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia in the uninterrupted course of uncompromising struggle. The brutal dictators have tried to destroy the multi-dimensional democracy by repeatedly attacking the democratic Bangladesh founded on the will of the people. Against the backdrop of the continuous struggle of Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia for a decade and a half, the worst dictatorship in history fell on August 5 in the world-shaking mass uprising of students last July.

He also said that the main theme of this year's International Democracy Day is: 'Navigating AI for Governance and Citizen Engagement', i.e. using artificial intelligence for good governance and citizen participation. This theme is very timely. Advances in technology must be harnessed to ensure the rule of law.

Acting Chairman of BNP said that in the last 16-17 years crores of voters were not given the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. In the fake votes national and local government elections were conducted with fake voters.

Crores of voters in the country could not participate in meaningful elections. Several generations of the country have grown up in a fearful and authoritarian environment without the practice and application of democratic rights, he said.

He said the freedom and creativity as well as human and mental development were restricted by misrule and had to live in constant obstacles. The bright and promising future of the youth has been thwarted. We still have a long way to go to build a strong and robust democracy because there is still weakness of democracy in most countries of the world.

Tariq Rahman said, personally I and my party believe that there is no alternative to promoting and upholding the principles of democracy. Because democracy has a universal value, which recognizes people's free expression and unhindered expression of ideas. We are determined to build such a safe, progressive and democratic Bangladesh, which will contribute to global democratic development beyond national boundaries.

He said, and therefore we are committed to the goal of re-establishing democracy in Bangladesh unitedly. Free, impartial and participatory elections will be the foundation of our state repair; Independence of judiciary and media and institutional implementation of all principles of democracy. InshAllah we will build a Bangladesh that ensures future generations’ prosperity and self-reliance, inclusive and liberal political environment and social status and justice.

Dhaka: Jatiya party(JP) will hold protest rallies, processions, human chains and memorandums at the district and upazila levels to demand the withdrawal of the case filed against Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader and top leaders. For this, the memorandum will be provided to the deputy commissioner and the nirbahi officer in the upazila.

Jatiya Party Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam confirmed this information to Barta24.com. He said that no fixed time for the program is being announced. The district and upazila committees will hold the program at their convenient time

He said that 36 cases have been filed so far against the top leaders of Jatiya Party. Two murder cases have been filed against the chairman GM Quader and his wife Sherifa Quader, a member of the presidium of the party. Most of the cases have been against Presidium member former MP Salim Osman. So far 6 murder cases have been filed against him.

Mahmud Alam said the cases are baseless and fabricated. I think the plaintiff in the case is also not aware of them. From the beginning of the student movement, GM Quader was in favor of movement. He spoke for the students' movement in the Jatiya Sangsad. He spoke for the quota, urged the government to accept the students' demands. Members of our student body directly worked in the field for the movement. But one after another false cases are being given in the name of party chairman and senior leaders.

He said, to demand withdrawal of false and conspiratorial cases, protest rallies, marches, human chains and memorandums will be given to deputy commissioners, upazila nirbahi officers in all districts, cities, upazilas, municipalities and police stations across the country.
