Actor Prabir Mitra passes away
Legendary actor Prabir Mitra, known as the legend of Dhaka cinema and the Nawab of the silver screen, has passed away.
He died at around 10:15 pm on Sunday (January 5) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. Prabir Mitra was 81 years old.
Actor Misha Saudagar confirmed the matter. In a post on social media, Misha Saudagar wrote, 'Prabhir Mitra Dada is no more. He passed away a while ago. May God forgive him.'
Earlier, his son Mithun Mitra had said that the actor's condition was critical. He said that his father was admitted to the hospital on December 22 due to some complications related to old age. After tests, he was diagnosed with lung problems. Later, he was taken to the ICU.
The veteran actor was born on August 18, 1943 in Chandina, Cumilla. His full name is Prabir Kumar Mitra. Prabir Mitra, who grew up in Old Dhaka, got involved in theatre since his school days. During his school days, he acted in Rabindranath Tagore's play 'Dakghar'.
Incidentally, Prabir Mitra entered the film industry in 1969 with late H Akbar's 'Jolchhobi'. In 1982, he won the National Film Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film Boro Bhal Lok Hili. In 2018, he was awarded the National Film Award in the Lifetime Achievement category.
He has acted in over four hundred films including 'Titas Ekti Nodir Nam', 'Jivin Trishna', 'Seyana', 'Jaliat', 'Faryad', 'Rakto Shapath', 'Charitrahin', 'Joy Parajay', 'Angar', 'Mintu Amar Naam', 'Fakir Majnu Shah', 'Madhumita', 'Ashanto Dheu', 'Alonkar', 'Anurag', 'Pratigga', 'Tarulata', 'Gayer Chele', 'Putrabodhu'.
Prabir Mitra won the National Film Award for the first time in 1983 for his performance in the film 'Baro Bhalo Lok Chilo'.
