CID's forensic team has collected DNA samples to confirm whether the body buried under the name of Mahmudur Rahman in 2021 in Savar of Dhaka district is that of BNP leader Haris Chowdhury. Besides, the body has been exhumed.

On Wednesday (October 16) around 9 am, the work of exhuming the body from the graveyard inside Jamia Khatamunnabiyeen Madrasah in Kamalapur area of Birulia Union of Savar Upazila started. Sample collection and exhumation work was completed around 2 pm.

On the surface, it can be seen that digging is being done in a part of the madrasa's graveyard. Police and public administration officials, family members of Harish Chowdhury and madrasa teachers are present there. The body was removed from the grave around 12:30 pm. Later, the CID collected the samples for DNA testing of the body. And the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for preservation.

In view of a writ of Haris Chowdhury's daughter Samira Tanzin Chowdhury, members of the Criminal Investigation division (CID) of the police exhumed the body on the orders of the High Court. At that time Samira Tanjin and related officials of the administration were present.

Haris Chowdhury's daughter Samira Tanzin Chowdhury, who was present at the spot when the body was exhumed, said, "Even after three years, my father's death has not been resolved." He was a national leader, a freedom fighter. He should be given the respect he deserves. 15 years of character defamation, false case has been given against him. No child would want their father's death to be a mystery. Now we want him to be respected. May he be given due respect. He worked for the country, fought the liberation war. I want his respect and recognition back.

Maulana Ashiqur Rahman Kashemi conducted the Janaza of Harish Chowdhury. He said that Mahmudur Rahman was buried here on September 3, 2021. Hafez and madrasa students participated there. We bury dead bodies during covid in our own system. I led the funeral. Since then till now we know him as Mahmudur Rahman. But we, like his family, want his true identity to come out. Let the countrymen know his identity, we also know.

Birulia Union Ward No. 4 UP Member and Union BNP Former Member Secretary Monirul Haque said that the body that was exhumed today was buried in the name of Mahmudur Rahman. It is actually the dead body of Haris Chowdhury. His daughter arrived today, she was also at the funeral. His DNA will be tested to be surer. We also want the body to be identified as Haris Chowdhury. He was a freedom fighter, his body could not be buried in his own area. Now let him be properly buried.

Savar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate SM Russell Islam said that the body of Mahmudur Rahman (Haris Chowdhury) has been exhumed from the grave as per the instructions of the High Court in view of the writ petition of Haris Chowdhury's daughter. Haris Chowdhury's body was exhumed from the grave identified by his daughter from 9 am today. The forensic department has collected evidence for DNA identification of the body. DNA test will be done accordingly. If it is identified from the DNA, it is the body of Haris Chowdhury, then action will be taken as per the further instructions of the High Court. After collecting the evidence, the body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for preservation.

12 judges accused of corruption and acting as accomplices of the fascist Sheikh Hasina government have been sent on leave. The Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan said that the case related to the removal of the judges will be taken up in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court next Sunday.

He gave this information while talking to reporters at the High Court premises on Wednesday (October 16) around 4 pm.

The Registrar General said, a delegation of anti-discrimination student movement met me. I discussed it with them for a long time. Later, we also discussed this matter with the Chief Justice. There is a process for the resignation or removal of a judge. But there is no law regarding this in our country. The previous government took an amendment to remove the judges. But the Supreme Court overruled it. It has once again applied for a review by the government. Court will open next 20th (Sunday). The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice will decide on this on October 20.

He also said that judges are appointed by the President and removed by him. Here he did what the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court should do. 12 judges will no longer be assigned to the bench. This means, on the 20th they will not be able to judge. We expect the Attorney General's Office to take the matter to court on the 20th. It will be known what happens in stages.

Meanwhile, in view of the Registrar General's statement, Hasnat Abdullah, coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement, said that the verdict on the sixteenth amendment of the constitution will hopefully come on Sunday. The judges must be removed that day. We will wait until Sunday afternoon. Demonstrations were held in high court, judge court and other courts of the country. Those who have the blood stains of two thousand martyrs on their hands. They want to bring back the murderer Hasina. The Supreme Court has no power to remove them. So we will ask law enforcement agencies to watch the video and arrest those involved. They should be arrested within 24 hours.

Dhaka: Veteran politician, Awami League presidium member and former agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury has passed away (innalillahi wa inna ilahi raji'un).

She died on Wednesday (October 16) afternoon while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. She was 82 years old.

Matia Chowdhury's maternal uncle former minister Mustafa Jamal Haider confirmed the news.

Matia Chowdhury was born on June 30, 1942 in Pirojpur district. Her father Mohiuddin Ahmed Chowdhury was a police officer and mother Nurjahan Begum was a housewife. On June 18, 1964, Matia Chowdhury got married to the famous journalist Bazlur Rahman.

While a student at Eden College, she became involved with Chhatra Union, a progressive student body. Matia Chowdhury was the organizer of the strong student movement against the Hamdur Rahman Education Commission in 1962.

After being admitted to Dhaka University in 1963, she was elected as the Vice-President of Rokeya Hall Student Council. In the following year, she was elected as the general secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union or DACSU. In 1965, when the student union split due to ideological reasons, Matia Chowdhury was elected as the president of one section. Rashed Khan Menon became the president of the other part. As such the student union came to be known as Matia Group and student union Menon Group.

Matia Chowdhury was known as 'Agnikanya' among the students because of her fiery speeches. Matia Chowdhury joined the National Awami Party under the leadership of Prof. Mozaffar Ahmad in 1967 after completing her student life. She quickly gained wide fame in political circles due to her speeches.

In 1969, when Ayub Khan was overthrown by popular uprising, many political prisoners including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were released from prison. Matia Chowdhury also got out of jail and became active in field of politics again.

Liberation War of Bangladesh is a significant event in the life of Bengalis. Matia Chowdhury actively participated in the liberation war. She played the role of an organizer in forming a joint guerrilla force of the NAP-Communist Party-Student Union. After the liberation war, she did the politics of reconstruction of the war-torn country through NAP.

Matia Chowdhury has never deviated from the politics of Bangladesh's four state principles-democracy, socialism, secularism and nationalism. Leftist politicians had good relations with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In that sequence, Matia Chowdhury was also in his favorite list. In 1975, when Bangabandhu formed Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League or Baksal, Matia Chowdhury was placed in its 115-member central committee.

She joined Awami League in 1979. She became the agriculture secretary of the party. Matia Chowdhury served as the Agriculture Minister during the Awami League regime in 1996, 2009 and 2013. She is currently a member of the presidium of Awami League. When Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury died in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad, Matia Chowdhury was elected as the deputy leader of the Jatiya Sangsad. She performed the same duty in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad. 

Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed has decided to send 12 judges of the High Court division on leave who were accused of corruption and working as accomplices of the fascist Sheikh Hasina government.

The Chief Justice informed them of this decision on Wednesday (October 16) afternoon.

The accused High Court judges are entering the office of Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed one by one to attend tea refreshment. Till writing this report, four judges have come to the invitation of the Chief Justice for tea. They are - Justice SM Moniruzzaman, Justice Khondkar Diliruzzaman, Justice Md. Aktaruzzaman and Justice Shahed Nuruddin. The Chief Justice informed about the decision to send them on leave.

Meanwhile, students of anti-discrimination student movement are protesting in the High Court premises to demand the removal of controversial and pro-Awami judges. Around 12:30 noon, thousands of students took a stand in the High Court premises. The entire High Court premises were abuzz with their slogans, sit-ins.

A protest procession under the banner of anti-discrimination student movement came out from the foot of Dhaka University's anti-terrorism Raju sculpture and reached the High Court premises.

At that time, the students shouted slogans demanding hanging of fascist, murderer Hasina, "Abu Sayeed, Mugdha- the war is not over," "Despotic brokers, beware of the warning," "Besieged, besieged, besieged, the High Court will be surrounded," "Broker, highway, highway." Rajpath,'' 'Delhi na Dhaka, Dhaka Dhaka,'' 'Apash na Sangram, Sangram Sangram,'' 'Wake up, wake up, student society has woken up' etc.

The students said the judges who had ruled against the quota are still in the High Court. If they are not removed, the blood of all the martyrs, including Abu Sayeed, Mugdha, will be dishonored. Those who had ruled against the caretaker government to conduct unilateral elections also remained in the High Court.

They also said that the students will remain in the High Court until the removal of these corrupt and partisan judges.
