Digital Security Act and all cases will be canceled: Asif Nazrul
Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said that with the cancellation of the Digital Security Act, all cases under this act will be canceled. Only computer offenses, which are computer hacking, blackmailing with intimate photos of children, will continue in such cases. But cases for journalism or comments by free-minded people, dissenting people, will be canceled face by face.
He said these things at the 'DRU-Desh TV Best Reporting Award-2024' program at Dhaka Club on Friday (November 8) afternoon.
Asif Nazrul said, you have seen that we have tried to be very journalist-friendly. No harassing action has been taken against any journalist by our government. No case has been filed by our government or police against any journalist. The general public has filed a case.
He said, we should all remember that nothing should happen outside our professional identity. No matter how much journalism a journalist does, if he continues to openly support extrajudicial killings, you should think about whether you would call him a journalist or something else. Many journalists have played a role in such a hostile environment in Bangladesh. The majority of journalists were on the path of truth and justice. Those who could not dare to say anything remained silent.
Requesting the DRU leaders, the adviser said, "I would like to request you not to divide the DRU into two parts. There are many reasons behind the fact that there was a fascist government. Teachers are at fault, people of all professions are at fault, and journalists were also at fault."
Syed Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, said, "I congratulate all those who won today. When I was an environmental lawyer, I had a close relationship with journalists. We used to file cases based on many reports from journalists. Again, journalists have reported on many of our cases."
Dhaka Reporters Unity President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo presided over the program, and other speakers included General Secretary Mohi Uddin, former president M Shafiqul Karim, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam and Managing Director of Desh Television Limited Arif Hasan spoke on the occasion.
