Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have staged a protest march demanding a state ban on the genocidal party Awami League.
The march started at 10:30 pm on Wednesday (February 12) from the university's Murad Square and ended with a short rally in front of the university's main gate (Dairy Gate) adjacent to the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
During the protest, the students were seen chanting slogans such as 'Baksal brokers, be careful'; 'Awami League's skin, we will take it off'; 'Chhatra League's skin, we will take it off'; 'Yuba League's skin, we will take it off'; 'India's brokers, be careful'; 'Delhi or Dhaka, Dhaka-Dhaka' etc.
At the end of the procession, speakers at a short rally moderated by the General Secretary of the Chhatra Adhikar Parishad, Nazirul Islam, demanded an immediate ban on the Awami League and criticized the current government's silence on the issue.
Zakir Hossain, a member of the convening committee of the current branch of the Chhatra Dal, said, "The dictator Hasina has fallen at the cost of many lives." But there is not an ounce of remorse among the Awami fascists for these casualties. We want to tell the interim government to immediately ban this Awami League and ensure the maximum punishment under the existing law.
Commenting on "Awami League has strangled democracy," Mahfuzul Islam Megh, convener of the Cultural Alliance, said, "The Awami League was not only fascist in these 24 years, they were fascists in 1975 as well. The Awami League has strangled democracy through three consecutive fake elections. We want the fascist Awami League to be brought back to the country and punished. Otherwise, our struggle will continue."
Commenting on 'Awami League has taken away people's right to vote', the office and publicity secretary of the branch camp, Mazharul Islam, said, 'Awami League has taken away our right to vote since 2014. After the mass uprising of 24, we had a dream of a new Bangladesh. But we can see that a group of people have risen up to rehabilitate Awami League. We want to say that we will not accept any kind of excuse. Awami League must be banned immediately.' 'Banning Awami League was the main responsibility of the interim government, but they did not do it', said Arifuzzaman Ujjal, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, saying, 'The main responsibility of the interim government that took charge after the genocide should have been to ban Awami League, but they did not do it. Taking this opportunity of the interim government, Awami League called a strike, distributed leaflets, and carried out secret attacks. I would like to tell the interim government that if you do not want to betray the blood of the martyrs and embrace the spirit of mass uprising, then ban the Awami League.
