Court to announce the verdict of Sinha murder case today
The verdict of the murder case of retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan will be announced today (Monday). Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail will pronounce the verdict. After a lengthy hearing, witness statements, cross-examination and arguments by lawyers, the judge on last January 12 set January 31 for pronouncing the verdict of the sensational murder.
Sinha was shot dead by police at the Shamlapur checkpost on Teknaf Marine Drive on the night of July 31, 2020. The police as plaintiff filed three cases (two in Teknaf and one in Ramu). On August 5, five days after the incident, Sinha's elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a murder case against Teknaf Police OC Pradeep Kumar Das, Baharchhara Investigation Center Inspector Liaquat Ali and nine other policemen in a Cox's Bazar court. RAB was given the responsiblity for investigating the cases.
On August 6, 2020, seven policemen, including OC Pradeep and Inspector Liaquat, surrendered before the court. The RAB later arrested three locals, three members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN), Pradeep's bodyguard and seven others in connection with the murder. When Constable Sagar Dev, the accused in the chargesheet, surrendered on June 24, 2020, all the 15 accused in the case came under the law.
On December 13, 2020, the investigating officer and RAB-15 Cox's Bazar Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Khairul Islam submitted chargesheet in the court accusing 15 people including OC Pradeep Kumer Das. Khairul. In the chargesheet It was described the Sinha murder as a "planned incident".
The 15 accused currently in jail are the then Inspector of Baharchhara Police Investigation Center Liaquat Ali, dismissed OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, bodyguard Rubel Sharma, dismissed Sub-Inspector (SI) of Baharchhara Police Investigation Center Nanda Dulal Rakshit, dismissed Constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun, dismissed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Liton Mia, dismissed Constable Sagar Dev, dismissed APBN Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Shahjahan, dismissed constable Rajiv and Md. Abdullah, a witnesses in the case filed by the police at Teknaf police station, Nurul Amin, Md. Nezamuddin and Ayazuddin of Marishbunia village of Shamlapur of Baharchhara union of Teknaf.
