Prayer for cancellation of Dr. Yunus's bail

Department of Inspection of Factories and Institutions has applied for cancellation of bail of Grameen Telecom Chairman Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan made this application in the court of Dhaka Labor Court judge Begum Sheikh Marina Sultana on Thursday (July 6).

It is said in the application that Dr. Muhammad Yunus is staying outside the country without the permission of the court. His bail should be revoked.

Before this, on June 6, the court framed charges against four people including Noble Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. A formal trial began against four people including Dr. Yunus.

The other three are - MD. Ashraful Hasan, Director Nurjahan Begum and Md. Shah Jahan

On September 9, 2021, Arifuzzaman, a labor inspector of the Department of Factory and Institution Inspection, filed this case in the Third Labor Court of Dhaka.

According to the statement of the case, Grameen Telecom inspection report showed that 101 employees, who were supposed to be made permanent, were not made permanent. No participation fund and welfare fund were formed for them and not even five percent of the company's profit was given to the workers as per law.

Based on the complaint, a criminal case was registered under Sections 4, 7, 8, 117 and 234 of the Labor Act. On October 12, the Labor Court granted bail to four accused persons. Later on December 7 Dr. Yunus applied to the High Court to annul the case.

On December 12, the High Court adjourned the proceedings of a case for six months. On August 17 last year, the High Court rejected the application to quash the case. Later, Dr. Yunus filed leave to appeal against the judgment of the High Court.
