Election preparations as per the schedule announced by the Chief Adviser: EC Secretary
Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that preparations for the next national elections are underway as per the schedule announced by the Chief Adviser.
He told reporters after a meeting with UNDP representatives at the Commission building in Agargaon on Tuesday (January 14).
The EC Secretary said that UNDP will provide technical assistance in the preparation of voter lists and elections. In this regard, UNDP will provide a list of what kind of assistance is needed within the next ten days.
The UNDP is interested in assisting the national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. To this end, a UNDP delegation will meet with the Election Commission on Tuesday to discuss how it can assist in the next national parliamentary elections.
A five-member UNDP delegation arrived at the Election Commission building at 11 am. The meeting discussed whether the EC has any needs and how it can provide assistance, if any.
The organization has directly assisted the commission in all elections held in Bangladesh since 2005. The United Nations provides various types of assistance in the elections of a country, including advice, technical assistance, logistics, training, preparation of voter lists, and public awareness creation.
In this regard, UN Resident Representative Gwen Lewis said that UNDP wants to cooperate with the elections in Bangladesh.
It is worth noting that the thirteenth national parliamentary elections could be held in the country by the end of 2025 or the first half of 2026, said Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
